Laetare Sunday

Last Sunday was Laetare Sunday. The word Laetare means, “rejoice.”

On this day of rejoicing, we are given a foretaste of the joy of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus.

Laetare Sunday reminds us that we are now midway through the holy season of Lent. For the past few weeks, our focus has been on prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. We have attended the Stations of the Cross. The Confession lines are long, which is a good thing. Many have been present for the Scrutinies (Rites for those preparing for Baptism at the Easter Vigil).

These past weeks have been very helpful for me in my Lenten journey and I hope so for you.

I pray that after Easter Sunday, it is not business as usual. As we resume our daily routines and duties, we must not forget about our need for repentance. We must continue to focus on growing in holiness. We must continue to become the person God wants us to be.

Peace and blessings,

Father Mark Ruiz
