In this Sunday’s Gospel, the disciples see only five loaves and two fish—far too little to feed such a large crowd. Jesus, however, first looks to heaven and gives thanks. Out of that act of gratitude and trust, God transforms what seems insufficient into an abundance that satisfies everyone.
How often do we focus on what we lack rather than on the many blessings God has already placed before us? Gratitude changes our perspective. When we pause to thank God for His daily gifts—our faith, our families, our health, our parish community, and even the ordinary moments of each day—we begin to see His abundant love at work in our lives.
May we come to Mass each Sunday with thankful hearts, recognizing that the greatest gift we receive is Jesus Himself in the Holy Eucharist. And, nourished by His love, may we move each day ready to share our time, our talents, and our compassion with those who are hungry—physically, emotionally, or spiritually. I know we all are capable of a grateful heart, let’s go out and share it.
