5th Sunday of Lent

If the word “almsgiving” conjures up images of Lent, Fish Fries, parish soup suppers and contribution to the rice bowl — then you are in good company. But many Catholics are surprised to learn that the practice of giving alms is not just a Lenten spiritual discipline. It is meant to be a year-round exercise, an integral part of our spiritual lives, and can be a tool that leads us to a deeper union with Jesus Christ and the Universal Church. Giving alms is essential to fostering a deep spiritual life because it allows us to step outside of ourselves and focus on the needs of others.

In this challenging time here in our Parish and in the Diocese of Oakland, we have remained hopeful that Jesus is present and He is in full control. We are invited to focus our attention only to Him, and be rooted ever more deeply to prayer, especially in the Blessed Sacrament.

Recently, we received from a family here in the Parish a matching donation of up to $10,000 to be used primarily for improvement needs at the Adoration Chapel to allow access 24/7 to those who desire to spend time with Jesus there.

This is indeed great news!  Especially during this time when we need to come together as a community and exercise almsgiving as an outward sign of Christian love for one another. Your sacrificial offering provides for this spiritual need and hence, forges our bond as a community.

Should you wish to match the donation, dollar for dollar, please contact me at frjetvilla@srcdublin.org or approach me after the Masses. Together, we can keep the Chapel doors open for Perpetual Adoration.

Peace and blessings,

Father Erick
