Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today, January 22, is the International Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children

The over 60 million abortions since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.” However, we have great trust in God’s providence. We are reminded time and again in Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), no. 373, designates January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance … for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.”

As individuals, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer, fasting and/or giving alms. Another way to take part is through participating in special events to observe the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Here at Saint Raymond’s, we have started the 9 Days of Prayer for Life yesterday, January 21. Click here for full access of the novena prayers in English and Spanish.

Today, both the 12:15PM and 6PM Masses, including the extended adoration from 1-6PM, will be offered for the protection of the most vulnerable members of our society – the unborn. We will likewise have the Spanish Praise and Worship starting at 7:30PM, particularly dedicated to the promotion of the culture of life.

Tomorrow, January 23, we will recite the Holy Rosary immediately following the 8:30AM Mass; and again after the 12:15PM Mass in union with those pro-life advocates marching in San Francisco for the 17th Annual Walk for Life. Join us at the plaza and safeguard life – from the moment of conception to natural death!

Peace and blessings,

Fr. Erick
