In this weekend’s Gospel, Jesus foretells his Passion, death, and Resurrection. In response to Peter, Jesus offers one of his most profound teachings: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” This is an invitation to live out true love.
To follow Jesus, we need to:
Deny ourselves: This does not mean destroying oneself, but rather ceasing to be the center of the universe. It means overcoming selfishness to think more of others—and, above all, of God.
Take up the Cross: Life’s difficulties are not a punishment; they are opportunities to love, learn, forgive, and practice patience. The cross represents the daily effort to become better and to do good.
Follow in his footsteps: This implies imitating Jesus’s way of life. It means thinking as Jesus would think and acting with compassion, justice, and truth.
We worry too much about money, success, or comfort. The Gospel reminds us that the greatest treasure is love and salvation. Material things pass away, but the good we do lasts forever.
Let us live out the Gospel within our families, at work or in our studies, and in the face of trials and suffering. Let us put the needs of our loved ones before our own whims, perform our work or tasks honestly, help our colleagues without seeking only personal gain, and accept trials with faith—always trusting that God gives us the strength to persevere.

En el Evangelio de este fin de semana, Jesús anuncia su pasión, muerte y resurrección. Ante la propuesta de Pedro, Jesus pronuncia una de sus enseñanzas mas profundas: “El que quiera venir detras de mí, que renuncie a si mismo, que cargue con su cruz y me siga”. Esta es una invitación a vivir el amor verdadero.
Para seguir a Jesus necesitamos:
Renunciar a uno mismo: No se trata de destruirse, sino de dejar de ser el centro del universo. Significa vencer el egoismo para pensar mas en los demas, y en Dios principalmente.
Cargar con la Cruz: Las dificultades de la vida no son un castigo, son oportunidades de amar, de aprender, de perdonar y de ser pacientes. La cruz representa el esfuerzo diario de ser mejor y de hacer el bien.
Seguir sus pasos: Implica imitar el estilo de vida de Jesús. Se trata de pensar como Jesús pensaría, de actuar con compasión, justicia y con la verdad.
Nos preocupamos demasiado por el dinero, el exito o la comodidad. El Evangelio nos recuerda que el mayor Tesoro es el amor y la Salvación. Las cosas materiales pasan, pero el bien que hacemos dura para siempre.
Vivamos el Evangelio en la familia, en el trabajo o estudio, ante las pruebas y el sufrimiento; Pongamos las necesidades de los seres queridos por delante de los caprichos propios, hagamos nuestros trabajos o tareas con honestidad y ayudemos a los compañeros sin buscar solo el beneficio personal, aceptemos las pruebas con fe, siempre confiando en que Dios nos da la fuerza para salir delante.
